I have been writing quite a few articles on hormone therapy lately and have mentioned bio-identical hormones in many of those articles. I realized that I have never offered an explanation of what a bio-identical hormone is. Bio-identical hormones have been getting a great deal of attention in the media lately, so many are familiar … Continued
The word “organic” refers to the agricultural methods that farmers use to cultivate fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. “Organic” practices are designed to conserve water and reduce environmental toxins and pollution. On January 28th, the NY Times reported on a huge UK study – The Million Women Study, which reports on 1.3 million women in the UK. These new results were reported in The Journal of the National Cancer Institute and showed once again that the combination of estrogen and progestin caused an increased risk of breast cancer in women – findings that were similar to the results of the US Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study. However in this UK study, women who took estrogen only were shown to have an increased risk of breast cancer.
Low Libido Expertise By: Boston Bioidentical Hormones Expert Dr. Joseph Kaye In my practice, I frequently encounter the issue of low libido in both men and women. Bioidentical hormones are an exact replica of the hormones that are naturally produced by the body; matching the body’s natural hormones molecule by molecule. They are referred to as “All Natural” because they are extracted from soy and yams. Bioidentical hormones are processed by a compounding pharmacist. Once the plant-based hormone is processed, its structure is identical to the estrogen, progesterone, and androgen hormones produced naturally by one’s body. This is why our bodies can metabolize them naturally as it was designed to do, with minimal or no bioidentical hormones risks or side effects.
One of the main criticisms of bioidentical hormone therapy is that “there are no studies on bioidentical hormones.” In fact, there are many excellent publications that demonstrate the benefits of bioidentical hormone therapy. Some of the studies show a greater margin of safety with bioidentical progesterone over the non-bioidentical progestin, Provera. Those that support Premarin and Provera point to a number of studies that were done. However, 26 of them were biased and, what’s worse, the bias was covered up. If Wyeth needed to “give credit” to other physicians for their research on their own products, what were they trying to cover up? What did they know that they weren’t saying? Why weren’t there independent groups that could have demonstrated the benefits of Premarin and Provera?

“The medical establishment must stop kowtowing to drug companies and start serving women’s best interests — and that involves widely prescribing bioidentical hormones. This will lead to healthier, happier women and, in the long run, help reduce America’s skyrocketing health-care costs.”
